BRIEFING

Careum Verlag produces and sells teaching materials and other publications in the healthcare sector. The new online store was intended for making the system fit for the future, and for improving the experience as well as the processes. Specifically, the focus was on the following goals:

  • More attractive user experience
  • Increase of sales in the online channel
  • Improvement of digital processes through the connection of the publishing software Phiatos
  • Integration of the e-book platform Edubase, as well as Card2Brain, the offering for digital learning cards

OUR SOLUTION

STRUCTURED CATALOGUE

The catalogue is structured according to school level and occupational profile – especially learners in vocational schools can thus quickly find the teaching materials for their respective training. Filter functions and a powerful search function make it easy to find what you are looking for.

Numerous publications are available both in print and as e-books. In addition, trainees benefit from Set, which bundles all the teaching materials for a course, simplifying the ordering process.

USER PROFILE CHECKOUT

The shopping cart and checkout process follow the standard one is used to from modern stores today. Buyers can create a user account and thus store their personal data or view orders already placed. In particular, e-book buyers will also find the codes required to use the e-books on Edubase readers. In addition to payment by invoice, the common credit and debit cards as well as Twint can now also be used.

MICROSHOPS FOR INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS

Careum Verlag offers a customized range for individual schools, which is accessible via protected microshops. This gives students the opportunity to purchase all the teaching materials they need at once, in the best conditions.

BASED ON SHOPWARE

The e-commerce platform Shopware is the backbone of the online shop. The catalogue, orders and users can be managed in the system. The two sales channels – public webshop and microsshops – access this data.

The dashboard provides a quick overview of the orders placed and sales achieved.

END-TO-END DIGITAL PROCESS

The entire process could be digitized thanks to the new platform. Via an interface, Shopware accesses the product information and stock levels from the Phiatos publishing software. At the same time, orders are forwarded to Phiatos for further processing.

An interface to the Edubase platform was set up for the delivery of the e-books. Edubase prepares the e-books and distributes them to the respective buyers via its own platform.

THE RESULT

The goals set in the project were achieved. The successful connection of the conversion systems has simplified the administrative processes at Careum Verlag. At the same time, sales via the online channel have already increased after a short time compared to the other channels, which further improves process efficiency.

It is not yet possible to say whether the ambitious sales targets will be achieved. It is still too early for that.
