The Story Behind Devis, Our First Commercial WordPress Theme

October 16, 2014

During the past six years, we’ve worked on 200+ WordPress projects, with clients ranging from small businesses to large corporations. And if there’s one thing we know is that users, regardless of their level of experience, want to be in control.

WordPress gained momentum as a CMS because it empowered its users through an intuitive dashboard. It bridged the gap between code and interface, opening up to masses of users that would no longer need to worry about their programming skills or rather lack thereof. Simple tools like menus and widgets allowed users to have control over more than just the content they published; they were able to play around and change the way their website looked like.

It’s this very essence of simple yet efficient tools we base our work on. One can say there’s no surprise we chose to develop our first commercial WordPress theme on the premise that every single section of a website is a widget users can customize. The idea was successfully implemented in dozens of custom themes developed for our clients.

Introducing Devis

Devis is a fully responsive, retina ready, multi-purpose theme with a powerful administration panel. The key behind it is the comprehensive layout builder, consisting entirely of widgets with easy drag & drop capabilities. This approach offers users a familiar setting in configuring their page layouts while providing the means for a full customization. From header to footer, every single element can be edited to suit your needs and preferences. It’s entirely up to you how to mix and match these widgets and discover what works best for your site.
Equipped with vector font icons and fluid layouts, the quality of the theme is preserved and beautifully scaled to any resolution; the retina ready display is there to impress. Moreover, from portfolio projects, to blog posts, testimonials, and single pages, any type of content you add to your site is fully responsive and easy to read on any type of device screen.

Customize everything. Start with one of the four predefined skin pallets and play around with colors, navigation, layouts and more. The layout builder grants you control to configure each part of the page, by adjusting the position and attributes of each element you want to integrate on your layout. In addition, all modified widgets can be synchronized across different page templates by copying both the widget and the preferences you already set.
Built using an OOP approach, the Devis theme allows developers to easily overwrite the entire code and create child themes that can inherit the parent’s functionality while providing the benefit of adding to or altering its core functionality. Thus, it brings you the simplest and safest way to edit the theme, without risking to lose changes during updates.
We know no two projects are alike and believe a theme should solve both simple and complex tasks, just like Devis does. You can create single pages, complex structures based on the default WordPress Hierarchy Template or take the challenge and take it from scratch. You have many predefined widgets to work with and awesome plugins the theme integrates with WPML, ACF or Gravity Forms, just to name a few.
