Food Crew

Much to our surprize, in June 2009 FoodCrew was also the first exclusive restaurant-review blog launched in Romania.

As any blogging rookies eager to experiment, we decided to try on something on our own size. We had a pretty clear website concept in mind based on a cartoonish theme and a crew of unique characters that write witty chronicles about their adventurous food experiences. To add an unique touch to the whole restaurant review idea we chose a personal rating system that would reflect food and services quality for the venues we reviewed.

Custom WordPress Theme Development

The fact that we were working on a custom commissioned design made this custom WordPress theme implementation as pleasant as it was efficient. Moreover, knowing exactly what the website should look and feel like meant we could spend more type on refining its most important features.

WordPress Custom Content Types

The initial FoodCrew website was focused exclusively on restaurant reviews, which meant that we could use the default WordPress post type and extend it by integrating additional custom fields, such as the rate card, the map, the Google Analytics views count and the Foursquare venue information. In contrast, the new website launched in early 2011 introduces two additional content types, that for events and advertorials, plus the updated version of our custom developed Foursquare venue information plugin for WordPress. We will come back to this latter custom integration in the lines below.

Foursquare integration with WordPress

Unlike any other Foursquare plugin for WordPress, our custom solution integrates venue information such as users tips, who’s the mayor, and the total number of check-ins into WordPress blogs and not user information such as your latest check-ins and collected badges.
